Wild Griffon Vultures at the aviary in Vrachanski Balkan

Two Griffon Vultures have been observed in the northwestern part of Vrachanski Balkan NP in August 8-9th 2010. The birds were spotted by Georgi Grozdanov – the local collaborator of the Birds of Prey Protection Society.

2,5 km of poachers’ nets destroyed in Haskovo

On August 4th, 2010, a commission involving representatives of the National Agency of Fishery and Aquaculture (NAFA), Haskovo Municipality, State Forestry Board – Haskovo, and the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water, destroyed 49 poachers’ nets, confiscated from violators that had been poaching at reservoirs in the region of Haskovo.

A meeting for revising the International Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) Action Plan took place in the period July 7-8th 2010 in Madrid, Spain. A total of 7 experts from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece and Bulgaria discussed the contemporary trends, national population status, threats and conservation measures required to preserve Lesser Kestrels in Europe.
