AGENDA FOR CHANGE: A PLAIN LANGUAGE VERSION OF AGENDA 21 AND THE OTHER RIO AGREEMENTS, 1997

The publication was prepared by the Center for Our Common Future – Switzerland, and presents an adapted version of the most important documents adopted at the Summit meeting on the Earth’s problems in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

The publication comprises: 
• Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, containing the most important principles, on which states should base their future decisions and policy, referring to the consequences of the socio-economic development for the environment;
• “Agenda 21” – a work program for the coming century, dealing with all aspects of the sustainable development, as the only one and possible alternative for ensuring the future of the generations of today and tomorrow;
• Statement of the principles, related to the management, protection and sustainable development of all types of forests;
• and the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change, signed at the meeting in Rio.
The Bulgarian version of the publication was issued by Green Balkans with the financial support of the Delegation of the European Commission in Bulgaria and PHARE Democracy program, and aims at supporting the reform in nature conservation legislation in Bulgaria.
The document was designed for politicians, state officials, NGOs, scientists, teachers etc.
