Bulgaria gifted Europe's nature with a rare bird!

A Bearded Vulture, hatched in the aviaries of Green Balkans' Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre, is being transported to Spain today. The bird will be released in Andalusia as part of an international project for the reintroduction of the species in Europe.

It is an offspring of Bulgaria's only pair of the species, raised in Green Balkans' Centre, and it is the second young one to be transferred to Spain - as last year our country gifted another bird for the programme coordinated by our colleagues in the VCF. Before it left its birthplace, the veterinary specialists at the Centre did a full exam of the young one.

His condition was determined as satisfactory, and after the compulsory treatment against parasites, the bird was loaded on a plane and is now on the way to its new home. We are wishing the young one a safe journey and good luck in the forthcoming adventure, and hoping that Bulgaria will soon also be part of the countries releasing Bearded Vultures.
