The Lesser Kestrel made new friends at “Hristo Botev” Secondary School in the town of Ivaylovgrad

It's hard to hide your admiration when you find yourself in a school like this. You can see the patriarchal order everywhere. Neat, beautiful children, with alert eyes. The revival fervor of the old-time teachers, which has been forgotten nowadays, emerges from the past. Perhaps this is no accident - the school celebrates its 100th anniversary!

Green Balkans have very good and old memories of the managers of the Ivaylovgrad school, who provided logistic support for the realization of our first conservation working holiday in the region, namely – the construction of a supplementary feeding site for vultures near the village of Pelevun in 1997.

Thanks to the assistance of the Headmistress – Mrs. Alexandra Horozova, we presented “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” project before several classes and promised to organize a meeting with all the children from the school in 2014.

The kids were eager to learn more about the Lesser Kestrel and showed great interest in the conservation of the species. And, quite unexpectedly, we received several signals of sightings of Lesser Kestrels in the region of Ivaylovgrad.

We promised each other that next spring we will be on the watch-out for the long-awaited feathery guests.
