The National Biodiversity Council ratified the three Vulture Management plans – Griffon vulture, Black vulture, Bearded vulture

The National biodiversity council ratified all the three action plans, proposed by the team of Green Blakans, the Wild flora and fauna fund and the Society for protection of raptors and assessed them as three of the most significant plans for conservation of species of birds in Bulgaria, these are in particular – Griffon vulture, Black vulture and Bearded vulture.

On December 1st 2017 a regular session of the National biodiversity council for consideration and presentation for ratification by the ministers in charge of 8 action palns for spicies with conservation significance.
In the National biodiversity council chaired by the deputy minister Krasimir Zhekov, RIEW, also participates the chairmen of the National nature protection service, the Ministry of agriculture, food and forestry, Executive forests agency, the Ministry of tourism, the Ministry of economy, the Ministry of enegry, the Ministry of the regional development, the Executive environment agency, the Executive agency of fisheries and aquaculture, Institute of oceanology, a number of institutes of BAS, the Universities of Plovdiv, Sofia and the University of forestry. Representative of NGO`s are as follows: one from Bulgarian biodiversity foundation and one from WWF.

Emilyan Stoynov from the Wild flora and fauna fund and Ivelin Ivanov from Green Balkans presented the Management plans. Comments from the National nature protection service were made as well as some written statements, which will be organizad in the Plans. The members of the author collectives and the representatives of the scientific and environmental community defended the measures proposed in the plans for conservation of the species with good arguments.

Eventually, after a disputed vote all the three plans were ratified and after supplmentation of the notes received, they will be proposed for endorsement by the Minister of environment and water and the Minister of agriculture, food and forestry.

The plans for the Capercaillie (Tetrao urogalus) in Bulgaria for the period 2016-2025 will also be proposed for endorsement, the draft of “Action plan for the White-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos) in Bulgaria for the period 2016-2025”, the draft of “Action plan for the Eurasian three-toed woodpacker (Pycoides tridactilus) in Bulgaria for the period 2016-2025”, all of them developed by Bulgarian biodiversity foundation, as well as the Management plan for the Lesser white-fronted goose and the Red-breasted goose, developed by the BSPB.
