The first young owls left the Rescue Centre [ 2011-08-14 ]
In the beginning of August, a total of 15 Long-eared Owls (Asio otus) exchanged the coziness and safety of the pen provided by the Wildlife Rescue Centre of Green Balkans for the insecurity and challenges of freedom!
The small balls of fluff, raised with loads of love and determination by the staff of the baby room took a bit more than two months to turn into gracious young birds, full of energy and curiosity. The team of the Centre made an effort to teach them first lessons of survival and finding and trapping of food. Each of them received a ring – a “passport” as an indication of their belonging to the huge family of birds, successfully treated at the Rescue Centre.
So, the owls, received from all over the country, are now flying free at the foot of Sredna gora Mountans. We are wishing them best of luck!
