Volunteers of Green Balkans have made monitoring of the colony in Konush and have counted 33 bird species around the lake, among which a Short-toed Eagle.
Unfortunately they have also noticed the smashed dead bodies of about 30 young herons under the trees on which the colony is situated this year. Many people still do not know that it is forbidden to disturb the birds, including to rest, to go through and to fish under the trees of the colony.
The young birds, which have fallen can be fed by their parents even on the ground, if people are not disturbing the colony.
Two injured baby-herons were transported by the volunteers to the Rescue Center for Wild Animals in Stara Zagora. One of the babies survived and its broken leg was successfully operated
An information board must be put on the new place of the herons’ colony next year if the new nesting place becomes permanent for the birds.
