[ 19.10.2009 ] The Counstruction of the Visitors’ Center of Pomorie Lake Was Given an Official Start The construction of the center is the last stage of the project of Green Balkans “Pomorie Lake – conservation, reconstruction and sustainable management”, financed by the Global Ecological Fund (GEF) and the World Bank.

The center will support the activities for protection of the saline lagoon and its unique biodiversity and will play an important role for the development the region as destination for ecological tourism. According to Green Balkans Pomorie Lake can be developed as center for ecological tourism if a better management is applied. One of the basic aims of the visitors’ center is to support the promotion of the lake as a precious nature site that is worthy to be protected and visited.

Towards the present moment are being finalized the rest of the activities in the project and namely: reconstruction of the channel connection the lake with the sea, restoration of the hydrology balance of the saline lagoon, preparation of a project for a protection of the lake from fresh water incursion, preparation of a project for artificial nesting place for rare birds, preparation of a Management plan for the complex of protected territories of Pomorie Lake, monitoring of the water and the biodiversity of the lace, implementation of an educational program with the local schools.

The visitors’ center is being constructed on the bank of the lake, close to the Museum of salt. On the ceremony were present the Chairman of the Management Board of Green Balkans Mr. Toma Belev, the manager of the project Mrs. Valentine Fidanova, the mayor of Pomorie – Mr. Zlatanov, the deputy in the Bulgarian Pariament Mr. Ivan Aleksiev and representatives of the municipal administration as well as representatives of the regional inspectorate of the Ministry of Environment and Waters. According to the custom the mayor of Pomorie broke a bottle of wine in the fundaments of the new building.
