[30-10-2019] Bat Night at the museum in Rousse
On October 18, Rousse Regional Museum of History celebrated Bat Night 2019.

This was the last official event of the National Bat Night Campaign. As usual, the museum's program was filled with interesting information and entertaining games. Krasimir Kirov, curator of the museum, shared the vibrant program that consisted of a fun workshop for making a bat domino, clay bat models, "bat face" face-painting; tunnel play; "being a bat" - an educational game in which children learn about bats’ orientation in space and what their food is; labeling “bats” and methods for capturing them. The amusing event ended with a discussion on how important sleep in winter is for bats, "bat monitoring" and demonstration of working with an ultrasonic bat detector.

We remind you that all bats in Bulgaria are protected by the Biodiversity Act. In addition, 13 of them are included in the list of species for conservation in the NATURA 2000 ecological network. The main objective of the Habitats Directive is "to ensure the long-term survival of Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitats".

We thank Krasimir Kirov and Rousse Regional Museum of History for the photographs.
